digital interludes

Over the next twenty weeks I will be developing a new piece that I have tentatively labeled digital interludes. The creative process around the idea has just begun and will continue to evolve and develop as time goes on. Please check back to see how things are going.

So, mark your calendars for Choreo Collective's 2010 Current Collection. The performances will take place on Saturday, March 27th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday March 28th at 2:00 p.m.

The wonders of knitting.

Since last year I've been busy with various knitting projects. Some were easy, some were not so easy. And each project is a learning process from learning new stitches, different patterns, how to seam and how to repair or go back if you make a mistake.

I've been dreaming of making a sweater for quite some time. Two weekends ago my mom and I visited Yarns, Etc. in Chapel Hill where I bought eight skeins of Sublime Yarns Cashmere Merino Silk DK for my Big Cables and Big Ones Too project. Today I'm going to buy the remaining five skeins so my sweater won't end up looking like a shawl.

And after all this purchasing of yarn and learning of stitches and techniques, I'm still not going to start my sweater. Why? In an attempt to not waste the money I've invested in yarn, because believe me this yarn is not cheap, I'm going to make the sweater with inexpensive yarn to learn as much as I can. This process will allow me to take notes and check the size.

Off to the yarn shop I go.

My Goal

CORRECTION POST:

It would help if I included transition times.

6 min - 250 meter SWIM
5 min - transition
55 min - 11 mile BIKE
5 min - transition
36 min - 3.1 kilometers RUN
1 hour 47 Minute Total

PREVIOUS POST:

My finishing time for the June 28th triathlon is 1 hour 37 minutes. I imagine I might be able to shave a few minutes off between now and then.

6 min - 250 meter SWIM
55 min - 11 mile BIKE
36 min - 3.1 kilometers RUN
1 hour 37 Minute Total

Guess I'll keep working hard. Or maybe even harder. And it looks like May might be the month to practice transitions and work mini-mini-mini triathlons to prepare for June 28th.

What do triathletes say to one another? Is there anything close to "Merde" for dancers?

Workout Diary

I've been lacking on the workout diary lately. It's all in my head, right! Actually, I was trying to manually write a diary but I really have been lacking. So I guess I'll start fresh with the following:

Saturday, April 4:
25 mile bike ride. 2 hours 15 minutes total

Comments: What a ride. The hills were killing me. So much so that I was cursing them as I approached and overcame them one by one. Good feeling though when I finished. First time riding 25 miles. WOW!

Sunday, April 5:

OFF and sore, tired.

Monday, April 6:
2 hour dance rehearsal

Comments: Probably one of my better Caroline rehearsals. My brain was fresh and my body was cooperating.

Tuesday, April 7:

20 min Bike and 16 min Run/14 min Walk

Comments: That was not easy. Moving from bike to run/walk was difficult. Although, it is getting a little easier each time.

Wednesday, April 8:

Swim Strokes II - 1 hour class - estimated 12-15 laps

Comments: Holy cow that class kicked by a$$. I'm working on my breathing technique and feel like this class gave me more confidence. Hopefully next week will be better. And hopefully I'll be a little faster.

Thursday, April 9:
OFF

Friday, April 10:

OFF

Saturday, April 11:
17 min Run/13 min Walk and Arms

Comments: Good workout. Ran 13 minutes straight and then intervals for the remaining 4 minutes.

Sunday, April 12:
15.5 mile Bike ride. 1 hour 25 min.

Comments: Great ride. Tried to ride 13+ mph throughout. However, that was difficult while going around Shelley Lake. I'm never going around that lake again. Too crowded. Guess I'll be doubling back or taking a different route next time. Could have been less time/more miles had I not gone around the damn lake.

UPCOMING Workouts:

Monday, April 13:
2 hour dance rehearsal

Tuesday, April 14:
Choreo Collective session

Wednesday, April 15:
Swim Strokes II - 1 hour class - estimated 12-15 laps

Thursday, April 16:
Bike and Run/Walk

Friday, April 17:
OFF

Much Better

My PT visits have been paying off. My hip flexors and IT band feel so much better than they did a few weeks ago. I no longer have the pain or the achy feeling in my hip after a run or bike ride. On the other hand, I have spent less time in the gym over the past few weeks in an attempt to rest and get me back to normal. Hopefully it paid off and I'm good to go till the race.

Training

Training for our June 28th triathlon started the first week of February. My hip started buggin me about two weeks in. I visited an orthopedic doc yesterday who told me my hip flexor is extremely tight and inflamed. I have a scheduled PT appointment in March and hope they can work it out. Plus, the anti-inflammatory prescription he gave me seems to be working in the meantime. Need to keep training. Off to the gym I go.

My bad

for not typing sooner. I'm not sure but didn't feel like typing up my thoughts, feelings or dreams. I sometimes wonder if playing on Facebook has anything to do with that. But the new, shiny appeal of Facebook has worn off so...

I'm back.

Happy TURKEY Day!

Today is the day to eat, drink and be jolly with the fam (my parents and the two of us). Jon, mom and myself are each bringing something delicious to the table. Here's the menu we came up with since we started planning about a month ago.

Our Menu:

  • Turkey (small breast) with sage, rosemary and pancetta butter sauce
  • Sage, rosemary and pancetta gravy
  • Meatballs
  • Jalapeno and cheddar cheese cornbread
  • Cranberry and Red Delicious salad
  • Apple and sausage stuffing
  • Brussel sprouts

Beverages:
  • My fav red wine - Red Guitar Old Vine Tempranillo Garnacha, described as:

Together, these varieties combine to produce a rich, smooth and luscious wine full of ripe raspberry and blackberry flavors on a long, soft finish.

  • Growler of Triangle Brewing Co.'s Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel

I'll let you know how everything tastes. Hopefully delicious :O)
